The first book of the Belgariad is a captivating story about a young boy who has been sheltered within a simple life and it is hinted that truly he is someone who has been prophesied about and potentially may have greater powers. At the end of the book we have a group of characters that are searching for the wizard who has thieved the orb of power. While the storyline is basic, what makes the book a must read is the character interaction, humor and development.
